(From a local who actually eats here… a lot 😄)

One of my favorite things about living in Lake County is how many hidden gems we have tucked into our communities. These aren’t just places to eat—they’re the spots we celebrate at, grab something quick between appointments, or bring our families on a Friday night.

Here are a few of my personal favorites—and exactly what I order when I go:

Sushi Night Done Right

If you’re craving sushi, I always recommend

Ninja Sushi (Mentor-on-the-Lake)

Fresh, consistent, and always a great go-to.

My order: Sweet potato sushi—simple, flavorful, and so good.

Date Night Vibes + Tapas

For something a little more elevated,

Pompadour (Fairport Harbor)

Cozy, charming, and perfect for sharing.

My order: Stuffed dates—they’re a must.

Sweet or Savory Crepes

A must-stop when you’re near the lake:

Julbean's Coffee & Crepes (Fairport Harbor)

Such a fun, feel-good spot.

My order: Dairy-free fig crepe—so unique and delicious.

Classic Sub Shop Staple

You can’t talk about Mentor without mentioning

Verdi's Italian Market (Mentor)

A true local staple.

My order: Sicilian sub without cheese—still packed with flavor.

The Crowd Favorite (for a reason)

We all know

Barrio Tacos (Willoughby)

Always a fun night out.

My order: El Jefe taco no cheese—bold and so good.

Quick + Fresh (but still really good)

Don’t overlook

Heinen's Grocery Store (Mentor)

Perfect for a quick, fresh lunch.

My order: Any salad with peas and beets—simple, fresh, and satisfying.

Cozy Pizza Night Spot

One of my go-to dine-in spots:

Longo's Pizza (Mentor)

Casual, cozy, and always a win.

My order: Hot honey pizza no cheese—trust me on this one.

Flavor-Packed Comfort Food

If you haven’t been to

Aladdin's Eatery (Mentor)

you’re missing out.

So many good options here.

My order: V-Nine soup or curry pitza depending on the day.

Incredible Indian Cuisine

For bold flavors, try

Indian Kitchen (Mentor)

Everything is consistently good.

My order: Aloo gobi—so flavorful and comforting.

Donuts Worth the Trip

You cannot skip

Biagio's Donut Shop (Eastlake)

Hands down, some of the best donuts you will ever eat.

My order: Whatever is fresh 😄

Pro tip: Bring cash—and go early.

Hometown Ice Cream Classic

Nothing beats

Jerry's Derry Pride (Wickliffe)

A true local favorite.

My order: Lemon Italian ice—so refreshing.

Pro tip: Bring cash here too.

Coffee + Catch-Up Spot

For a slower morning or mid-day reset:

Blu Bee Coffee (Painesville)

A place that makes you want to stay awhile.

My order: Americano with oat milk and a nut syrup—my go-to.

Why This Matters

This is what I love about Lake County—it’s not just where we live, it’s how we live.

These are the places where life happens:

after games, between appointments, on date nights, or just because you don’t feel like cooking.

If you’re local, tell me—what am I missing? And if you’re thinking about moving here… just know the food scene might just convince you 😉
